SID and Nvidia problems ...

Hello,

I've been using debian SID for quite some time now (over one year) and have an consistant problem for about 3 weeks now:

When I do apt-get dist-upgrade I get the following errors:

Quote:
The following packages have been kept back:
aspell-en libpt-plugins-oss libpt-plugins-v4l2 x-window-system-core
Each day new packaeges are added to the repository of SID but these "kept back" packages are allways there. When I manually select them for install I get a "E: broken package" error. Is this happening to anyone else these days/weeks. I upgraded to X.Org, Gnome 2.10 and firefox 1.06.

Meanwhile I also have problems with my nvidia drivers: The Nvidia logo appears but there is no harware acceleration. My kernel is 2.6.11-k7 and gcc 4 is installed (due to apt-get update). When I try to reinstall my nvidia drivers I get an eror that the gcc libraries used to compile the kernel nd the ones on my system are different. What should I do?

Thank you very much in advance ...

SID is currently going through an upgrade of gcc to version 4, which is a change in the ABI for all C++ programs, This means at the moment things are very unstable until this is complete. I'm in fact not updating my system till its done.

THe only way I can think of for solving the problems with Nvidia is if you recompile the kernel module yourself. The easiest way to do this is download the kernel-headers for your kernel version, and use the driver installer from nvidia.

Also check that in the modules section of xorg.conf you have
Load glx
as one of the lines.

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.
