Problem with DHCP
Warning - Linux newbie!
I installed Linspire 5.0 on an intel celeron 600 box (runs at a better rate than the win me that was previously installed btw) The install went without a hitch, other than a bad CD-ROM drive. When I click on the 'Refresh Interface' button in the Network Configuration screen, no information is refreshed from my router.
Tried running route to see what was setup and no entries are displayed.
Tried running ifconfig and I see that inet6 is set but no inet info is displayed for eth0.
Network Setup:
DLS Modem -> LinkSys Router -> Windows XP box
-> Linspire Box
The windows XP box is able to connect to the internet without problem.
DHCP is enabled on the router and the linspire box shows up in the DHCP clients table along with the windows xp box, however, cannot ping the router or anything else from the linspire box. I get the message "network is unreachable", which makes sense since there are no entries in the route table.
I did get the linspire machine to actually pick up the DHCP assigned ip address one time (after running diagnostics from the opening login screen). However, was not able to access internet from the box.
Is there possibly a timeout setting for the NIC???
HELP!!!

Oddly enough, the connection to the internet works now. It seems that by changing the MTU setting from 16K to 1484 (or so, don't remember the specific number... if anyone needs it please let me know) the connection now works from the linsire machine to the router and out to the dsl modem. I did notice also that the CNR application that comes with linspire may have some issues. When running this application, over time, the title bars in running applications start having redraw problems. (My guess is there is a memory leak in the CNR application...?) Once I close the CNR, I don't run into these type of problems.
