Cool... So get linspire free with the promotional code, then buy CNR for $20.

Yes, the $49,95 is now called CNR-Gold you will need this to :
- Remain an Insider (if you already got an Insider Membership)
- Get FREE Linspire upgrades
- Get Discounts on CNB products (commercial software)

At least I think those last 2 are correct

well this makes me want to use linspire now, $50 a year felt unrelistic but 20 is less than $2 a month. I think I will try it using the promotion/cupon and decide if I should subscribe.

Well the downside of the $50 payment option is that I'm not sure they have a new version every year (I think there was more then 12 months between the release of 4.5 and Five-O (Five-O took them a long time to build) so getting the $50 membership might backfire in those cases (offcourse you still get the CNB discounts and stuff).

Kde 4.0 will be another year before release, so I highly doubt they will have it in linspire 5.5 or whatever they call it.

Well this offcourse depends on the "reason" they have to release a new version.
If it's only to upgrade to KDE 4.x you might be right. But they are constantly working on improving the OS (Usability, Compatibility, Fixing Bugs). So it's possible there will be a Linspire 5.5 or 6.0 without KDE 4.x but with other improvements. But it's impossible to tell unless you work for Linspire.

...speaking of KDE, I'm kinda wondering if anyone's ever thought of a KDE-3D, a 3D operating environment. With current technology, you could probably get some more work done with a proper implementation of a 3D OE, and with hologram technologies, you can have something ready to power that technology, among other things! Having a 3D OE available may also push the development of holograms as well.

Well I saw some demo's of 3D Desktop technology. Wasn't JAVA working on something like that (Project Looking Glass or something like that ?)

I don't know if a 3D GUI is more userfull then the current one, offcourse it looks nice but that's just eyecandy.

Windows and Mac proved that eye candy does play an important part of people using a GUI. ...and I'm thinking that a 3D GUI would actually be a bit more useful if properly implemented. Right now, though, it may be slow to catch on due to the massive need for hotkeys and our lack of holograms.
