I've not yet taken the time to install and configure Samba from scratch, and my GUI installations have never failed, so I've never been forced to fix it yet
But I can tell you that Linux machines need the Samba client to browse Windows shared network resources . And you need the Samba server for Windows machines to browse Linux resources.
Also - be careful to only COPY files from one file system to another.

You might also check that the Samba demon(s) is/are started:
Code:
ps aux | grep [m]b | less -S
I don't run Linspire, I do run SimplyMEPIS 3.3.2, & here Samba is so nicely automatic that I never have worry about issues like this.
Books have been written on "how to configure Samba", so you will need to narrow your Q a little. You might try telling us what you read do far & what you didn't understand.
Have you found the config file yet? It's at least a little bit self-documenting.

Code:
ps aux | grep [m]b | less -S
doesn't reference "the fiole ( sic) or directory smb", please copy & paste, prefereably in a "Code" block, the command & the result.
