logging in as root

I am having trouble logging in as root when I boot, but I am able to log in as root from a konsole when I log in as a regular user. I am using freespire 2.0.8. How can I correct this?

It sounds like freespire, like Ubuntu, has root logins disabled by default. I've never tried freespire myself.
