Linspire on a 550 MHZ P3 Prosessor

WIll Linspire 5.0 run on a p3 prosessor that is running 550 MHZ? I tested linspire live on it and tiworked fine but on the site they say that you need 800 to run it. Is that just recomended or is that REQUIRED? If it does not work, I might try Linspire 4.5. Amazon has it right now for cheap.

Thanks in advance:

There is no hard limit on what is required on the processor side. 800 would work better, 550 will work but it will also be slow.. But what you should realy be concerned about is the amount of RAM you have.. Thats the more important part in my opinion. Sure the 550 Mhz will bog you down but having only 64 megs of RAM will make it realy painful. The problem isn't Linspire itself but KDE that Linspire uses by default.. So dont be expecting any fancy eyecandy if you want it to be usable.. (:

Going back to older Linspire versions wont help you much, its always been KDE and KDE has always been a tad hugry of a desktop..

800 Mhz is just recomended.
I have a 450 Mhz PIII with 256 MB and it works fine (4.5 and then 5.0) – but be warned: a 550 Mhz won’t set any speed records!
- Cheers!

I had various linux distros on 350's and 450's til recently. Upgraded the lowest main desktop machine to a 550, which is plenty. OF course I also have recent linux distros running on as low as a p166/64meg with kde gui as test boxes.
