Linspire freeze on install (Odd)
I've got a small problem (well, kinda big). While trying to install Lindows, it just seems to sit there and run forever on the first screen (where you get the 1. Install, 2.Diagnostic options) after pressing "1".
The progress bar gets about 9/10 of the way and then stops and this is only after the CD-ROM seems to be be running for 25 mins.
Finally, it just STOPS.
Any ideas...?
PS - Would anyone have a "real" idea on the minimal installation requirements out of a machine? I'm using an older machine and was wondering if it might be the CPU speed, it's only 400mhz.
Lindows ran fine on my 500mhz but this seems totally different.

Welcome
If you have download Linspire .ISO image and burn it on CD, please visit the following link to verify your downloaded .ISO images. Also, tell us what verison of Linspire are you trying to insatll? (4.x.xxx)
http://www.linspire.com/checksum
Could you please do the installtion with Diagnostic mode and put the last 10-15 line here? this would be helpful for us to recreate the behavior.
Also, please put here your all hardware configuration of your system with make & model number of each product.
[i.e HDD (partition details),Graphic card, NIC, USB,other?]

Linspire freezes during installation
I just tried to install a newly downloaded cd of Linspire 4.5, and have that same problem -- it gets about 90% installed, then just freezes. Nothing more happens, after a 15 minute wait I shut down the computer. Repeated this pattern 3 or 4 times.
I did the checksum on our download, and unfortunately the number does not match at all, so maybe it was a completely screwed download. But it does bring up the Linspire screen, with the choice for "install" or "diagnostics", and does seem to get nearly all the way through before freezing up. Any help will be much appreciated.
Booting up with the diagnostics, here are the last 15 lines:
Journalled Block Device Driver loaded
Linux agpgart interface v0.99 (c) Jeff Hartmann
agpgart: Maximum main memory to use for agp memory: 439m
agpgart: Detected via Apollo Pro KT 133 chipset
agpgart: AGP aperture is 64m @ 0 x d0000000
usb.c: registered new driver hiddev
usb.c: registered new driver hid
hid-core.c: v1.8.1 Andreas Gal, Vojtech Pavlik <vojtech@suse.cz>
hid-core.c: USB HID support drivers
mice: PS/2 mouse device common for all mice
started device management daemon v1.3.25 for /dev
mount: can't find /boot in/etc/fstab/or/etc/mtab
could not open /etc/devices/.devices.save
could not open/etc/devices/devices.inf
could not open/etc/devices/detect.inf
Our computer system has been built over the years -- has a 900 mhz AMD processor, a 3.2 gb HD (Caviar brand) with no partitions, 564 mb RAM, USB, with an external USR modem. We have only the Linspire 4.5 download on the HD.
Any advice? We are trying to get a Linux system working, but with no luck thus far. Last week we got cds for Damn Small Linux and Fedora core 2, and though both of these load nicely, neither one will recognize the external modem. We haven't used that modem for years, only dug it out to use with the linux systems. I think the dip settings need to be changed, or maybe we got the wrong cable. Anyway, that's another issue! I was hoping the Linspire OS would work better, and solve all our problems, but it won't even install. Could it be the download was corrupted? If so, I don't know that we can face that lengthy download again, and that will make our future with linux rather grim. Oh yeah, also tried installing a Mandrake 10 system from a purchased cd, but it would not accept either of our monitors to enable the graphical interface. So, if anyone can help with the Linspire problem, we'll certainly be grateful! Thanks.

Still Bugging over Linspire
The machine i've got is a custom 400mhz with 98mb RAM, it's a K6-400 CPU type. It's a TX533 motherboard, a generic PCI sound and NIC card.
What irks me about this is how i've heard of "ease of install" and then i ask the actual company and they want me to pay them for an OS that's supposed to be so easy to deal with if i want technical support.
Finally, i gave up on the 400mhz.
Linspire installed great on a 500mhz Hewlett Packard i had. I think Linspire is EXTREMELY picky about either RAM or motherboard types. I tried the install on 6 different machines and had very (VERY) mixed results.
All in all, i'm very unhappy with Linspire. The support is almost non-existant and they want you to pay for EVERY extra feature you get or want to download.
I honestly don't see a bright future for this OS. It's just not going enough going for it to be worth all the hair-pulling.
I had better results with Redhat Linux.
Just being honest, Linspire isn't for anyone outside of the moderate to advanced range.

MD5 checksum error
Follow up to my earlier post: I discovered the problem with the checksum number was simply that I didn't check the number until after the file had been burned to cd, and the md5checksum program was reading it from the cd.
For the numbers to match, it would need to be read from the original downloaded file, before burning to cd. Since a friend with a very fast connection downloaded the file for us, I don't have the original file to checksum. He may not have kept it himself. At any rate, that explains why the numbers were different -- why I got several numbers, not just one. The file may not be corrupted at all. Sorry for jumping the gun on this in my earlier post!
