Linspire 5 (Won't install) But when running off CD works fine?

Hello everyone. Last weekend, I got myself a copy of Linspire 5 (Downloaded it from Linspire) Anyway when I insert the cd and choose the option to install it. It shows the Linspire logo and a small bar that it is loading then out of no reason I suddenly get a screen that I must restart the pc. I restart it and no installation happens.

I decided to run the distro off the cd and after waiting for ages it loads . I have a feeling that my GFX card could be the cause of this. I have a Geforce 4 MX 64bit GFX card. Maybe Linspire 5 doesn't support this card? I also have (although set to disabled) onboard Intel Gfx.

Maybe when the distro tries to install it detects the Geforce and can not continue but when it runs off the cd it uses the onboard graphics? Any ideas, advice etc? I would really like to install Linspire 5.

If the onboard graphics card is disabled using the bios settings then linspire shouldn't use it. Your problem is pobably not related to your graphics card if the distro works fine as a live cd.

Hmmm ok then I wonder what is causing the problem?
Funny enough I should have mentioned this, I have exactley the same problem with Ubuntu. Live cd works and when Ubuntu is installed won't load the GUI?

I assume the Ubuntu installation completes fine. If it does and you reboot your system, do you get any errors printed to the screen when the "gui fails" to load?

You are correct the installation goes fine, the only error I get on the screen when the gui fails is something to do with Nvdia chipset not supported.

LINSPIRE CD doesn't work on all PC's .. The live CD got a lot of hangs ... I don't know if the flat panel had anything to do with it... it just would not load up. You'd have thought they would fix this kind of thing prior to release if they want to sell it... The let them weep .. is Billie boys trick with win.... It seems to work fine on most PC's from the live CD though I'd like to know if anyone has had problems of the same kind and is it related to flat-panels.. or the graphics cards.
