Installing Linspire??

I run Slackware on my Linux machine, but decided to check out Linspire, as I recently obtained a free copy of it.

I have VMware installed on my Windows PC, so I created a new OS (for Linspire), but everytime I try to install it, it freezes on the Linspire logo screen. I press ESC, and this is what I see

(thanks to imageshack.us for hosting).

Any suggestions?

I am not sure I understand your question? I am trying to install Linspire on to a VIRTUAL machine using VMware.

AFAIK, if you are installing Linspire ....it has to reside somewhere on the disk, (at least with some minimum configuration files)

Where is that area on your hdd...is it a separate partition or something like that

Becoz, the image shows that there is something wrong with the media on which you are trying to install!

It is actually a file that represents a partition. That is how VMware operates. So I guess, this isn't seeing the virtual partition for some reason...

hmmmmmmmmm - Has anyone else successfully installed Linspire within a virtual machine (using VMware)?

Thanks!

I notice that screencap you linked to talks about mounting ext2 filesystem within the VMWare container.

I wonder if this is part of the problem? Linspire, and Lindows before it, ran on ReiserFS.

I have also heard of a very few people having this resume2 situation. Their forums are down right now for an upgrade, but that might be the place to go and look for an answer.

Please be sure to let us know if what you try fixes it.

I have heard of problems running some Linux distros in VMWare.

Sorry can't be more help

I too am having problems installing Linspire 5.0.59 on my VMWare GSX Server. I am running Suse 9.3 with VMWare GSX Server 3.0 and it sees the virtual HDD with out a problem but then gets to about 90 percent and just stops responding on the install the virtual machine not the host machine or VMWare.

Yeah I have heard similar accounts too. I wonder if the problem lies with the VMWare software's configuration, or even if it isn't entirely compatible with whatever base OS you are using? Maybe because of an update that hasn't yet been incorporated in VMWare?

Well technically my base OS is not listed as a supported OS but Suse 9.2 is and I am running 9.3 its close but maybe not close enough. Oh well I just thought I would play around with Linspire may be I will try a few other things.
