Linspire uses a modified KDE desktop, so hopefully you should be able to change this setting in the KDE Control Center's (whatever Linspire may call it) Login Manager module:

(from The KDE Control Center (Linux in a Nutshell, 3rd Edition))

Quote:

16.3.1.1. Login manager (root only)

The KDE login manager is the program that controls the graphical login screen. This module lets you configure the graphical style of the login screen, as well as set some default display options, such as prelisted users and available session environments.

The Appearance tab lets you edit the greeting string displayed on the login screen and choose a logo. A drop-down box offers you a choice of the GUI style of the login screen: either Windows or a Motif style. The Language option on this tab lets you select the default character encoding for the login manager.

The Fonts tab lets you choose the font style and size for the Greeting, Fail, and Standard screen messages. Select which type you want to configure from the drop-down list and click the Change Font button. The pop-up window shows a list of available fonts and lets you set the point size. Click the OK button to close the pop-up window. The font you have chosen is displayed in the Example area of the tab.

The Background tab lets you select the background for the login screen. Like the desktop background, you can choose a color or wallpaper to use.
Hope this helps; imo your biggest difficulty is likely finding the KDE Control Center in the first place, but it should be accessible from the "L" menu somewhere under a group such as "System Tools" or "Configuration" or some such. Good luck.

you can always get cool wallpapers through CNR. CNR -> services -> deviantart wallpapers.
This will give you a new tab in CNR where you get the daily top picks of wallpapers from the deviantart graphicians!

ealm, hitesh_linux wasn't talking about desktop wallpaper (though the CNR info is always worth remembering). S/He was talking about changing the wallpaper that appears behind the login screen before you even get to the desktop.

Admittedly, I suppose you could use the DeviantArt wallpapers for that as well once you downloaded them, but that's no good if you don't know where the settings are to change the login manager wallpaper in the first place ;) .
