homenetworking and linspire

Could anyone give a overview of how to do hometworking with linspire and windows xp? I have two computers one is running xp and the other is linspire. The router I am usong is usrobotics 8004. I used the networking wizard to configure my network on the windows computer, but I am running into trouble on the linspire computer. When I launch the network browser I get the message "The file or directory smb:/ does not exist". I do have samba installed. I would appreciate the help.

mate, we can't give you a networking 101, that's not what we're here for, but based on what you're saying you're jumping far far too much into the middle of things. a "network browser" is a high level thing compared to network connectivity. it's the use of the smb / cifs protocols over an established ethernet network, and if you've not got the ethernet connectivity sorted, there's no hope in hell of all that network neighborhood drivel. get ip level connectivity working first. get to a stage where you can ping back and forth between the boxes before going any further, and if you don't know what that means you need to do some background reading really.
