Question Help Installing NVIDIA v5336 drivers on LindowsOS 4.5

I am hoping somebody out there has successfully installed the newest Nvidia drivers on Lindows4.5. I have successfully gotten apt-get to work along with other applications, including WineX (yay) which works great with older games. I got Morrowind to work as well but it runs slowly, and I am hoping the newest nvidia drivers will help. I have tried getting them via apt-get (although not newest version) and that does not work. I have tried downloading from source and then compiling, and I am unable to download them. I have tried nvidia's pre-packaged installer, which I can get into, but it tells me I need to exit the XWindows manager. I have tried to do so by logging in as root and typing "init 3" in the terminal, which another thread stated would log me out of x, and that does not work. It seems the most fool-proof way to do it would be exiting out of X and using nvidia's install. Thank you all in advance for your help.

Regards, Peter

don't know about Lindows
but on other distros
Ctrl+Alt+F1 takes you out of X and to a console (command line)

I apologize, I should have clarified in the original post... I did try that, someone in another thread rocommended that. When I do that, it opens up a DOS-like command terminal. But, when I try to run the installer, it says the module "nvidia" is still in use, which leads me to believe that it is not really exiting X. Maybe that will help if anybody else has any suuggestions! Thanks for taking the time to reply!

Install Nvidia Drivers

I haven't done this on Linspire yet... But I did it on Mandrake. I used a tutorial on this forum:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ticle&artid=30

Just follow the directions and you should be able to install the drivers.

I haven't been using get apt on my linspire system. Everything that I've read so far would indicate that doing so could cause the system to go down. How is it working out for you?
