gcc- newbie question

I installed the developer's aisle from CnR, which contains the gcc.
The gcc command still doesn't work.

Any idea why that is?

GCC

Ok I did that. I make a hello world program in c. I then compiled it with no errors. I am used to the command that runs the program being a.out at the command prompt. I get "bash: a.out: command not found" Is there another command?

Your current directory is probably not in your path. Type ls -ls to see what files exist in your directory and if they are executable. If a.out is there then use ./a.out to execute. You can add the current directory to your path with PATH=$PATH:./; export PATH

Good Luck
