Does Linspire have a system restore

Hi all,

Does Linspire have a system restore option
similar to Windowz XP?

I do not mean a normal backup script.
I am referring to the incremental backups that
are done whenever you install new software
or drivers or make any major system changes.
This option on XP has saved me from FUBARing
my system many times.

I am currently using SuSE 9.0 Pro and it
is functional, but I want EASY click click click.
Linspire gets more appealing everytime I visit
their site. From fighting off the dogs of M$ to
the new flash demo, I am very impressed.

Linspire doesn't have a restore system like the one you describe. It does however not sound very reliable either, since I assume the restore information is stored on the same partition and HD as the system itself.
To be sure you should back your data (like pics, docs, movies, mp3 etc) up on a separate HD, medium or computer.
I don't think you'll need to worry much about drivers, since most hardware is supported out-of-the-box in Linspire. Tell me what your specs are and I'll try to help you!
Btw, you can always use the "redetect" function in Linspire if it should become unbootable due to hardware/driver issues. This is very unlikely that you'll have to experience though...

Welcome to the Linspire community!

PS. I'd recommend you to sign up for a year of CNR. Not only will you get all the CNR apps and services - you'll also get any new Linspire versions as long as you're a subscriber... Linspire 5 (the biggest upgrade yet), is due this fall.

Smile Restore

As ealm said, there is not restore function.

What I do is:

Use CNR. It is excellent. All the software that I like I put in a private "aisle", which is basically a list of all the apps that I like.

I use external hard drives to back up all my data. Basically my movies and music and documents are all backed up on a frequent basis on three 120 Gig external drives that I have. The same "image" is on each drive.

If I ever hose the system, all I have to do is take 10 minutes to reinstall and another 15 minutes to download my software. Move my screensaver and wallpaper file back over fromt he external drive and set up all my settings. I am usually back up and running within about 30 minutes with everything pretty much the same.

With a CNR membership you also get access to all the newer releases of Linspire. It is an excellent value.

I have used the restore methon in XP. It can fix some things, but it is not foolproof and you do lose data if your restore point is to far back.
