Anyone success with Linspire install?
I just got Linspire a few days ago. I burned the ISO to CD and booted it up. I tried to install it and it could not find my HDD and gave me error code 151, devfsd not running. So far I have not found anything about what devfsd is. I have been checking the forums and I can not find a solution to get the darn thing to find my HDD. I asked Tech Support at Linspire and submitted my hardware info. The tech tells me to use a FAT32 file system and install Linspire on that.
Okay I have messed around long enough to figure out how to manage partitions. I create the FAT32 partition and make it active, write to the table information and try and format it. Then I get 'Attempting to create too large file system.' Then I try to see if I can create a new partition that is under the 1024 limit. Repeat the steps, and the partition seems to be created. Boot the CD and still cant find HDD. So I found out that I may need to mount the drive. Her is where I am a little confused. Linspire is suppose to be able to format the partition and make it usable when you boot the CD. So why have I spent the last 4 days not getting this thing to run? Its probably something stupid that I didnt know about but that is why I am asking. I am a gamer and I want to see the difference between Linux and Win. I want to run a Linux only machine. Got any instructions that I should follow? Hardware: AMD XP 1800+ EIDE Western Digital 80 Gig HDD 1 Gig of PC2100 Memory SoundBlaster Live! nVidia Geforce 3 Ti 200 128MB Samsung CD-R\RW Thanks -Adam //MasterC's note: Moved to Linspire Forum to get the attention necessary :) //Note |
did you verify your downloaded .ISO image? just visit the following link and verify the downloaded .ISO image.

Well at first I did not like it either. I'm about as newb as you can get when it comes to Linux and it's distributions. I couldn't figure anything out. It was aggrivating, still kind of is. But there's a plethora of information on Linspire, and any other distribution. I think it's going to be fun learning this.
My roommate hates it. LOL he has no idea what any of it means, but that's why he hates it. |
