I strongly agree with you on that.

Just to step in - since the nay-sayers seem to be out weighing the yea-sayers. The fact that Linare is clearly trying to ape the look and feel of Windows really does not bother me. It's not a system I would use personally, but I could see me recommending it to others.
The fact is that Windows has the vast majority of the share of pc users. So it is very hard to find anyone who has never ever used Windows 95 and/or up. (And that's not a challenge - I don't want to see responses saying "ha! I have only ever used a Mac"). One of the main complaints from people coming from Windows to Linux is that it doesn't look like they are used to. This is a human nature thing - get over it.
Linare and Linspire should be applauded, not lambasted. They have created a product that those users will be able to use. Once they are used to Linux, they can start to experiment. Linux has gone beyond being a tool only used by techies - non-technical types are now using the systems and their voice is being heard.
I don't know if any of you nay-sayers have heard, but Linux is about choice and that's what is on offer.

XavierP are Linare and Linspire proprietary? I think that might be the nay-sayers big problem. I have a bad Linux experiance with RedHat because it was proprietary. I don't want to bash Linare it looks very nice but if it is not versitle like most distros it may lead us down the wrong path.
Just my two cents.... great now I'm broke

Linare and Linspire can't be entirely proprietary. The GPL won't let them. RedHat only ask that if you take their distro and recompile that you remove their trademarks - logos, names and the suchlike.
Read the GPL and then apply it to distros - some parts can be proprietary, but the majority can't be.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe you can order a FREE evaluation edition of Linare 2.0 from their online store.

It isnīt just a matter of look.
Itīs just that for some people, Linux just doesnīt have as much applications as the other OS.
So now it just wont be enough making a nicer look.
Threre has to be a way to shoe them Linux has enough applications to compete with any OS.
And if it doesnt have one there is always a chance to create it.

I would like to see what they have, it does have a nice appearance. Provided I can evaluate it before buying it.

@RevJack
I noticed your collection of "flavors", why dont you add SUSE 9.1 personal to your collection? It got me off of Lycoris, although Lycoris was worth the $20.00 and the old Win98SE disk send in... LOL
@XavierP
Your reply under RevJacks first posting deserved a standing ovation.
@Jeremy
PLEASE push that ISO!!! I willl be one of the first! Oh Thank you Oh thank you Oh thank you

I've tried SuSe 9.1 Personal Edition. Although it is alright, I am not overly impressed with it. In the first place, it does not support my Intel 845 chipset as evidenced by the extremelly blurred install screen, and it had to resort to a VESA driver for video after installation, Secondly, it does not support my built in sound card, and thirdly, I could not get my HP PSC 1210 all-in-one to print AND scan with SuSe 9.1. Maybe I'll give SuSe another try when 9.2 comes around.

Actually i believe Unix runs X as well. Linux was just the free i386 port which grew. Actually, only the kernel is known as Linux. the basic toolset is from GNU. thats why u sometimes hear of the system refered to as GNU/Linux, though Debian is the only distro that really makes the distinction.
I like what I see though. (Although i also feel that they should have atleast 1 free version)
