VMTools install on Linare virtual machine?
Anyone succesfully install VMTools in Linare running under VMWare workstation 4.5? I've gotten Linare running just fine under VMWare except that I can't seem to get Linare to the point where I can install VMTools. I tried doing an 'init 3' to kill off X windows, but it hung and gave some error at the command line. I don't remember the error exactly, but it was something or other about the kernel. It gave me the impression that Linare doesn't support running at that level. I then tried moding the file under /etc where the default run level is stored. I changed from 5 to 3. Now the virtual machine boots up and is stuck at the login prompt, but it won't let me type anything. Quite annoying.
Anyway, if anyone has any ideas for me, that would be excellent. Thanks!

They're is definetly a way, but it is difficult. You have to install the VMware tools for ithe os to understand the X config, but during the installation it asks for the destination of the gcc. Find the destinataion and it should work. I installed the VMware tools and bypassed the gcc, but it still has the same errors. Do some googling and you might be able to find the destination of the gcc then hopefully it will work(which is what i'm doing)

oh wait, you can't even get to the login screen!? oh, sorry i have a different prob. Is you VH a IDE or an SCSI? IF it is SCSI you will have problems because For some reason there is a bug on VMWare that makes linux OSes on SCSI VH have a kernal panic. After changing this to IDE it should be able to get to the login screen. But after that it wont start x and it will have the problem i mentioned before. When you install it the vmware tools asks for the location of the gcc and it will not load when you input "startx". Anyways, hope this helps
