Linare APT's
I installed Linare and immediately went to apt-get to get the upgrades. The Linare repository was 'failed' but I was able to get some hits on the Fedora repository. There was something on the order of 75 updates available .... so I downloaded all the updates but am unable to install any of them due to conflicts with Linare. Go figure . Has anybody been able to install any upgrades via the apt-get in Linare ??

I haven't. Infact, in trying to do so, I broke my installation of Linare and had to re-install the OS.

Thank You Reverend Jack. [BTW, I see all your posts over w/Lycoris and their ongoing community problem.] But to keep with the thread - - - - - I sent a post over to Linare asking about their package mirror and yet to have received a reply. The packages that are downloaded are Fedora 2 packages ... and it is not a shock since Linare - except for the XP look - is Red Hat-ish through and through even down to the anaconda installer. Too bad it does not come with up2date. The apt-get utility is not of much value as it is now. I am sorta hoping that the Linare package site will eventually be the answer. {Final word on Lycoris .... I pretty much have written them off much like they wrote me off} ..... Thanks for the reply and sorry to hear about the reinstall. - Emmett

Yes, I've become somewhat discouraged with Lycoris. Desktop/LX has a lot of potential, but they seem to be having difficulties getting it released. I like Linare a lot and have pretty much made it my distro of choice.

I have had Linare installed several days now and I pretty happy with it as well. [ I even got Real Player 10 Gold installed easily .] ..... My only problem with it so far is with apt-get. I can always go with the rpm command line install I guess.
If I hear anything from Linare about their apt mirror(s)...... I will post it here.

Have you tried updating packages using the synaptic package manager ?
The linare repository is temporarily unavailable.

Yes, I did that, and used a Fedora Core2 repsoitory that was listed in the package manager, and that's how I broke my installation of Linare, thus having to reinstall it. How soon will the Linare repository be available?

Ditto with what Reverend Jack said !! I was fortunate in that I did not try to upgrade from Synaptic. The Fedora 2 repositories seem to be working fine ...... not clear that what is needed is the Linare repository. Same question .... any idea as to when the Linare repository might be up ??

I had the same problem. I installed linare for the first time last night. It looks wonderful. When I tried to update using Synaptic, all I got was ones from fedora core 2 which didn't work. I thought that, for some reason, they'd work for linare so I proceeded downloading the fedora onces but it didn't work. So I went to the repository preferences and unchecked fedora core 2 so only linare is avaliable when checking. I wonder why it includes fedora and redhat repositores. Those won't work for linare. I hope they have the linare repository up and working soon also.

Actually, since Linare is Fedora-based, Fedora repositories work very well. As I stated elsewhere, precautions should always be taken when upgrading a customized distro like Linare, if the upgrade asks to replace or remove ANY package that has Linare in the package name, STOP! That is almost guaranteed to mess Linare up. I know, Lindows/Linspire is the same way ( I actually proved that! :-) And I think Xandros was as well.
Anyway, the Ayo repository is among the very best, IMO, for Fedora based distro's, so it is a nice substitute for the custom repository until it is up and running. I also added in Dag Weiirs (sp) repository and 3 others that all seem to work very well together.Normally, instead of just doing an UPGRADE ALL, I refresh the repositories and then do a custom filter and do SHOW UPGRADEABLE. That way, I can sort of pick and choose without taking too many risks.
Hope this gives you some new ideas, please post back and let us know.
:-)

No ... nothing yet that I have heard. I use Synaptic every now and then but as I mentioned in another post ... I get too many conflicts with the "Linare-Menu" . The biggest example of this problem is when you try to upgrade Mozilla to the current version yet Synaptic will not allow it due to the Linare Menu conflict. I just do not understand that. I hoeard that it will be a couple/several months before Linare has their repositories up. -Emmett

Ah, ok, thanks for the info. I'm kind of curious to see what sort of packages they have in their custom repository.
BTW, on your Mozilla problem, have you tried just going to Mozilla.org and downloading the newest version that way? I normally now use Firefox and if Mozilla is anything like that, it will have it's own installer in the package and you'll be able to run it like that. I'm not positive it works like that, but Firefox has been doing that for quite a while now, that I know of, and it works very well. Only thing, installing it like that, it might not have the Linare-look, which would be a shame, it is very unique and polished.
Isn't it odd, Linare comes out, solid and polished, really user-friendly, and I hardly see anything about it on the net. Funny.

Hi Kevin - - - Yeah, if nothing else Linare is polished and user friendly. Much like Red Hat/Fedora are. I wish I understood how to get around the Linare-Menu conflicts though. As you say, it would be a shame to eat into some of the Linare Look !! The other thing I wish it had was an up2date capability like Red Hat and Fedora. But I have not hardly anything about it. By the way, I used Linuxant on the Broadcomm 94306 integrated wireless card on the Dell 9100 that I am using Linare on and it worked just fine. Just thought I would throw that in there. Maybe it will just take time to see if the community embraces it or not I guess .... -Emmett
