Epson Stylus C64 doesnt respond

I am using libranet 2.8. I have installed the driver from the Epson website. It was an rpm . I used alien to install. Per directions from epson website I installed using the cups web interface , cups without the web interface, and from the command line. The printer icons and everything are in place . Try to print test page and says is printing but printer doesnt do anything. I have restarted cups. Epson readme says the executable file is ekpd and gave a path for redhat. That path gave gave me no such file . I found ekpd in usr/local/epkowa/printer/ekpd. there is a shell script ekpd.debian in /usr/local/EPKowa/sc64_63s/rc.d/ekpd.debian. Ekpd is suppose to start at startup. How can I tell if ekpd is started and does the path look right ? I think the redhat path was /usr/sbin/epkd.

Hi I am running into exactly the same problem (unable to get the Epson cx6400 to work under a debian system).

I too found the ekpd daemon and even with it running things don't seem to work.

Did you ever solve the problem? If so do you remember how?

I have libranet which is distro based on debian. At the time I didn't know enough to get ekpd running but finally learned how. Once it was running I went to gnome cups manager and in the location box for the printer I put /dev/usb/lp0
which I got from /etc/ekpdrc.

I used ekpd.debian which was in /usr/local/EPKowa/SC64_63s/rc.d/ekpd.debian. I copied ekpd.debian to /etc/init.d

I used alien on the rpm from EPKowa website

It now works in all my apps.

Prior to getting ekpd fixed I used the driver from cups that
I downloaded from linuxprinting.org and it wouldn't work until I installed a foomatic filter package from debian . With
this printer driver I had to type lpr _P nameofprinter
in the printer box in most of the applications before they would print.

Thanks this is helping but...

Could youtell me whether /dev/usb/lp0 is linked to something else in your system?

I get the sense that I'm sending stuff into the void.

Note in the cups log I have the following

I [10/Oct/2004:14:55:11 -0400] Job 142 queued on 'NewServers' by 'andrew'.
I [10/Oct/2004:14:55:11 -0400] Started filter /usr/lib/cups/filter/pstops (PID 13007) for job 142.
I [10/Oct/2004:14:55:11 -0400] Started filter /usr/lib/cups/filter/pstoraster (PID 13008) for job 142.
I [10/Oct/2004:14:55:11 -0400] Started filter /usr/lib/cups/filter/rastertopips (PID 13009) for job 142.
I [10/Oct/2004:14:55:11 -0400] Started backend /usr/lib/cups/backend/usb (PID 13010) for job 142.
E [10/Oct/2004:14:55:11 -0400] PID 13009 stopped with status 127!

I dont think so, but I'm not certain. In your cups log , what does status 127 mean ?
