Dual Network Cards for Red Hat Linux

I’m attempting to create and Red Hat Linux server with two network cards. Eth0 is connected to a router and seems to be working OK. Eth1 is connected to a hub. I want my server to connect to the internet via eth0. They both have IP addresses assigned; eth0 is getting its address from the router. Eth1 is getting its address from the internal network. I can ping the router via eth0. I know this to be true because eth0 is connected to the router. I’ve also disconnected eth1 from the hub and still only get the address of the router when I ping it.

I can ping the internal network addresses via the eth1 which is connect to my internal network/Windows. I also disconnected eth0 from the router to confirm the connection of eth1.

My problem is I want my server to access the internet only via eth0. My internal network is Windows and I want Linux to have its own path to the internet. It is plugged into a multi-port router and I’m not having any problems with the router. If un-plug eth1 from my hub I have no access to the internet.

Since eht0 is a connection to the internet why won’t Linux use this connection to reach the internet? What is not configured properly? Is there a priority that must be assigned to my network cards?

If eth1 is connected to my hub I can then access the internet via Windows.

Please help I’ve been working on this for a week.

Thanks

Louis

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.

Did Chris help you in either thread? I think half of his 12,000 posts were obtained with this reply. It must be saved in his comp somewhere Though it's true, it probably didn't help. Chris doesn't seem to have enough SCSI bitmaps
