Wait a sec... JDS -- it's not just on Linux.

Just wondering...

This forum is named JDS (Java Desktop System)

BUT!

From what I understand, JDS is a UI built ontop of a backend... currently they offer JDS on Linux, and JDS on UNIX.

With their main OS hitting release 10 and having a major licence update, we will see some more interest in the Unix from Sun (thou shall not speak'ith thy name... evil vermin... hehe..)

Thing is, it will be using the JDS as it's interface. . . so will this fourm include all OSes that JDS is build for or should they rename it to JDS/Linux?

See my point?
(yah, it's late and I'm on a coffee buzz... )

"Java" is the name Sun append to everything - whether it's a Java program or not. I don't see why they would change it.

XavierP, I think SlackMeUP question was more about LQ renaming this forum from JDS to JDS/Linux than Sun renaming its products.

Well, JDS is indeed an environment that run on different bases:
there's already one based on Novell's Suse Linux, a demo version based on Morphix live CD (which itself is based on Debian/Knoppix) and the most recent version that will run on top of Solaris 10 too.
As this forum is under the "Linux - Distribution" branch, it is clear questions regarding JDS on top of linux are to go here, and perhaps questions regarding JDS generically too, while questions specific about JDS and Solaris should probably go to Other *NIX/Solaris forum.
