Grafpup 2.0 Hard Disk install problem
 

I have had to change my name from Patrick on the old site as this was already in use by another.
I have been running Grafpup 2.0 on the live cd very successfully for several days now. My installation to HDrv has run into problems.
I set up a dedicated Linux partition on disk 1 using Partition Magic. I then loaded Grafpup onto the partition using the programme on the cd. I accepted all the recommendations bar two; I did the full install (as I wanted to keep RAM as empty as possible) and I chose to put something on MBR (Grub?). On boot-up the following occurs.The BootMagic screen appears with the options including Grafpup. Clicking this takes me to the Grub menu which lists, among several options, Linux on hda6. Clicking this takes me to the Welcome screen and the boot-up at lightning speed. After two or three pages of rolling type the operation hangs. One of two things happens (I have done the boot-up several times and which of the two is quite random).
1. At "SCSI 2:0:0:0: att SCSI gen Sg2 type 5" the boot hangs for several minutes and then the following appears in red, "root@odin#". I don't understand what this means and I cannot get past it.
2. Alternatively, I get a panel instructing me to run xorg wizard. CTRL/F2 produces the login manager BUT a black screen, the X in the centre and a request for username but with no box in which to put the answer. All quite unlike the live cd. If I type the name nothing appears on the screen but enter produces the request for the password. The same thing happens again, looping endlessly. I am still on the original default username and password. I intended to change only when everything was stable and running.
Can anyone help? I suppose it could be a glitch in the system or I could have made a mistake with the installation. If it is the latter could someone give me some simple instructions for re-installation.

Hi Patrick,I had no.1 problem when I tried to boot with a usb drive plugged in. I removed it and it booted ok.
I also had no. 2 problem on the first boot of the HD install. I found that if you cntrl/alt backspace, it gets you in without having to log on:tisk: .
Next boot worked fine, and my hd install now runs flawlessly. V strange. mentioned it in my first post here.

CTRL+F2 should not produce the graphical login manager.

On my computer, it says CTRL+F2, but I always have to do CTRL+ALT+F2. Give it another try like that. At this point, you might want to reinstall, just to make things a little easier.

Many thanks to you both for the helpful suggestions all of which I have followed. The result is that Grafpup is now running like a steam train from the hard drive! Tomorrow I shall get down to the real work when I will, no doubt, be appealing for more help.
