Virtualbox Gentoo Guest - Can't get guest additions working
 
I'm running Gentoo as a virtualbox guest (Windows host). I can't seem to get the mouse integration and screen resizing working, and as far as I can tell, that means the guest additions aren't working at all.

I don't have a full desktop installed yet, just twm, and I installed the guest additions through Vbox (v2.2.4) itself (mounted the included disk image). The vboxadd service is running, and the vboxvideo and vboxadd modules are loaded.

Anyone know what I'm missing?

Did you install the guest additions from portage ?

No. The guest additions available in portage failed to build. I tried to figure that out but didn't get anywhere... tried unmasking newer versions too, those all failed. It was the xf86-input-virtualbox driver that wouldn't emerge.

I eventually just installed it from vbox's "install guest additions" ISO image. I assumed that this included an equivalent of the xf86-input-virtualbox driver.

Hmmm....I am not sure...However the fact that it failed to build could be part of your problem. Did you check bugzilla ? If so, you might want to submit a bug with your ebuild. The problem is you need the guest additions in 2 places, you need it on the machine running the vm, and you also need it inside, the vm. That is why you most likely dont see the effects of the guest additions. If you post a copy of your bug report I may be able to help with the problem with portage.
