uvesafb penguins go away?

my uvesafb flashes when booting and half of my penguins go away, just the top of their heads remain. ive tried 1440x900 1024x768 and other various widescreen modes smaller and all repeat the same issue....

nvidia card with nvidia-drivers package emerged. its a strange beast at best. the penguins show up fine for 2 seconds, then the flash then bam bottom 75% of the penguins is black. thanks for help in advance!

On my 3 gentoo systems the penguins go away as soon as openrc starts. I don't know if they are supposed to stay there all the time.

on my slackware machine the penguins would stay until during and after login to console... or stay until GDM/XDM/KDM loaded.
