startx error: Couldn't bind memory for BO front buffer
I am trying to install Gentoo with gnome.
I've been following the install docs from gentoo for x86, but after emerging gnome, I get the following error after startx Code:
bryanjp@gentoo ~ $ startx |
Hi, can you post this, just to have the actual state of your box
Code:
# emerge --info |
Code:
gentoo / # emerge --info Code:
gentoo / # lspci Code:
gentoo / # grep -v ^\# /etc/X11/xorg.conf Code:
gentoo / # rc-update show |
Quote:
Code:
bryanjp@gentoo ~ $ startx |
Hi, first of all your /etc/X11/xorg.conf is not good.
You have a intel video card and you try to load a Matrox video card. So, first, we will see if Xorg can start without any configuration files. Try this : Code:
# rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf For the record, your /etc/X11/xorg.conf should be like this actually : Code:
Section "ServerLayout" |
with no xorg.conf, my monitor goes black for 2 seconds then returns to the console and displays the following
Code:
gentoo X11 # startx Code:
gentoo X11 # startx |
Ok, before starting your Xorg-Server, can you post this :
Code:
# lsmod |
Quote:
Code:
gentoo ~ # lsmod Quote:
I really appreciate your help, any thing I need to change? |
First, can you edit your /etc/make.conf and add this :
Code:
VIDEO_CARDS="vesa intel" Code:
# emerge -auDNv world |
Quote:
|
What happen if you run this :
Code:
# emerge -av gentoolkit |
Quote:
Code:
gentoo ~ # equery list x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel |
I just emerged x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel
startx still doesn't work. |
d2_Racing,
I really appreciate your help, is there anything else I should try? - Jim |
