SIOCSIFFLAGS; unknown error 132 on gentoo 2.6.31-r6 aspire 1410 netbook

ok first of all let me start by saying that i have already searched the hell out of linuxquestions.org and the entire internet for a problem with this error.

I've found many solutions, all of which having to do with rfkill and hw switches for wlan devices. i downloaded and installed rfkill and used it, but to no avail.

im posting this thread becuz my acer aspire 1410 is doin something that no one is posting..

when i do a rfkill list

it shows my wlan0 card a
- softblocked yes
- hardblocked yes

so i turn the HW switch to on, and do a
# rfkill unblock all

and my card is unblocked, (this is the so called "work around" that i've been finding on the net)

but it fails.

i noticed that when i have it all un blocked the error output turns into

SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such file or directory.

as opposed to : Unknown error 132, when its hardblocked.

I'm wondering if anyone knows a way to fix this in 2.6.31-r6, without having to downgrade the kernel.

so far, downgrading the kernel is the only solution im finding, and the amount of time it took me to get a working gentoo was insane.

any help much appreciated.

Are you sure that your wifi switch is really enable physically on your laptop ?

Also, Unknown error 132 is a typical error for that.

And for your rkill switch problem, maybe you could remove the option from the kernel and retry if your wlan0 comes up.
