Need to manually re-install sys-lib/com_err and sys-lib/ss

I have done a very stupid thing. While trouble shooting some dependency issues, based on advice I found on another site, I tried to upgrade sys-fs/e2fsprogs by first unmerging sys-lib/com_err and sys-lib/ss which were blocking it. Now wget, ssh, etc will not work which means I can't even reinstall these packages via emerge because the attempts to fetch the tar file from the mirror fails. I have located the ebuilds on my local filesystem, but I have not figured out how to reinstall based on them. Can anyone throw me a rope?

Something like that was a real problem some time ago but should not anymore.

Maybe these two threads contain info on how to fix this.
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t...ht-comerr.html
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t...ib+comerr.html
or maybe even in this forum - I did not search here.

Copying what is missing (wget) off of the live-CD might work too.

If your Browser is still functional or you got links or lynx installed, or some ftp client - then the downloading is still possible - if getting the source is the only thing which prevents you from rebuilding.
The downloaded source-files normally go into /usr/portage/distfiles (or to the $DISTDIR defined in /etc/make.conf if you have changed the default)

Thank you. I'm still looking through those threads, but it looks like I'll be OK once I get the tarballs copied to the machine. I don't have links or any other browser installed. This is a pretty bare bones app server. Thankfully, that part of the system is still functional.

Thanks for the input. As it turns out unmerging the packages was the correct thing to do, I just botched it by not fetching the newer e2fsprogs package before hand. I finally managed to upload the source files I needed via the Apache server and was able to install e2fsprogs1.41.3. The com_err messages are a thing of the past and the blocks have been resolved. :-)
