Do I Need To Update My System Profile After Upgrading e2fsprogs (Blocked Package) ?

Hello forum,

I've just installed Gentoo 2008 using the minimal install CD and the stage 3 tarball and the portage snapshot tarball, ran emerge sync, and it will boot up nicely to the prompt.

But when I attempted to emerge a window manager, such as xfce or gnome, I ran into a blocked package problem concerning e2fsprogs, so as I was unmerging the e2fsprogs package, I got a warning message saying e2fsprogs was part of my system profile and I might damage my system by unmerging it. But I unmerged it anyway in spite of the warning and then upgraded e2fsprogs to the highest version. That fixed my blocked package problem and now I am all set to emerge xfce, gnome, or kdebase without any blocked packages and there does not seem to be any damage to my system.

But I am wondering, should I update my system profile since e2fsprogs has been upgraded, in regards to the warning message I received?

How do I update my system profile? Does running "env-update" and then running "source /etc/profile" update my system profile, assuming my profile needs updating?

I will appreciate your comments,

Did you run emerge -uavDN world?
Anyway, i don't usually update my world packages before I get a working system, so I would just go ahead and install the GUI. Did you change your profile? Or is it set to default? See the o/p of:
