Did a minimal install, now how do i find the modules?

Hi

I have done an install of gentoo, I've compiled the kernel to enable framebuffer support in particular, and vesafb support.

I know from a debian system of mine that to get vesafb working you need the module installed, it's not enough just to compile support in the kernel.

however, when I do "modprobe -l" I do not see ANY drivers, let alone vesafb ones.. have I missed a step in the install process?

Also note that I did the install from another PC, and then copied the kernel file across, so I'm thinking maybe I need to copy the modules as well??

Any help appreciated,
Thanks.

So you compiled the kernel on another PC but did not copy over the modules as well? Then that would be why you have no modules. On my system, modules for my kernel are in /lib/modules/2.6.30-gentoo-r6/ when my kernel is named kernel-genkernel-x86-2.6.30-gentoo-r6.

Was there a reason why you compiled the kernel on a different PC ?

Yes, as CoderMan pointed out ... the module files must be copied over.

Did you enable vesafb as a Module in the kernel config ?
