Your choice, if any, will depend a lot on whther or not you can disable, or at least workaround, "Secure Boot". Being an Asus that's pretty likely but may take some looking to find it. If it can be disabled and/or toggled, you can choose anything. One good test to get you started would be to create bootable USB drives with Live systems on them.

Just recently my roommate's old MacBook got progressively slower and more faulty and she asked me if I could fix it. I don't know very much about Macs so I tried booting --- LiveSlak --- and not only did it boot right up but it ran WAY faster than her Mac ever had. We backed up her important stuff and reinstalled a clean OSX something since she avoids learning curves and copied back her needed stuff.

I chose Liveslak partly because I love Slackware but mainly because I know of no other live system that is a Full System, not a stripped down version advertisement for an installer. You may not need all those tools so any live system could help, but Liveslak is especially good.

Best Wishes! inux2020
