youtube (google) is still not getting it right

i found a video with some music i like. it's album length so i had to put up with some ads. but i really like it so i decided i wanted to play it all again. i did the right-click in the player screen and selected "loop". i double checked and the check mark was there. but at the end there was one last ad and i clicked "skip ads" and it stopped at the screen that shows a grid of 16 videos. it didn't loop. i right clicked and the check-mark on "loop" was still there.

their player is still buggy and its the ads doing it. google needs to suspend ads until they fix it. but at least most of the ads are now being positioned between songs.

...and shouldn't you be writing that to yt/google instead of here?

WideOpenSkies 08-20-2019 07:28 PM

Get an ad blocker, dude.

dugan 08-20-2019 10:50 PM

If you pay for YouTube Premium then you don't see ads.

ondoho 08-21-2019 12:07 AM

If you use youtube-dl then you don't see ads.

i don't want to block all ads. i want them to put them in the right place. it should sound like radio. and they need to play radio ads on music, not TV ads.

yeah. maybe i should use an ad blocker until they get a clue. it's like PBS dumping my favorite shows every 3 months and showing crap for a month ... i quit donating. PBS will die of stupidity.

Slow? what on earth do you mean?
If I use youtube-dl with mpv, playback starts almost immediately - definitely faster than youtube because I don't have to load a whole website first.

Also, I've had enough of this.
Youtube is a pile of crap anyhow.
Using Linux and not getting creative about mitigating at least some of that is like buying a Porsche to drive only within city limits.

Or no, wait, we should really get together and write a petition to youtube to make them stop using ads until they fix their interface. Because that's totally going to work.

jsbjsb001 08-23-2019 12:31 PM

I remember YouTube before it was ladened with ads, then Google brought it. The worst part is that it either forces you to watch at least 5 seconds (or whatever) of the ad before it plays the video, or plays ads every x intervals. That's just tricky, bastards. But you can get some browser addons to download the videos from YouTube.

Thanks Google

Watching sturgis 2019 in streamlight while reading this thread in dillo on a p3 presently. No ads. mpv does the heavy lifting

Internet search streamlight if interested.

so post detailed step-by-step instructions that work on any distro.

Sefyir 08-24-2019 10:42 AM

Just use firefox
+ uBlock origin
+ YouTube Classic

Disable uBlock every few months to see if everything is resolved with playing "ads like radio".
If it hasn't been fixed - repeat

There is a incentive for this, Google wants you using Chrome - not other browsers.

Looping works fine for me in Firefox 68.0.2

Arcane 08-25-2019 01:08 PM

Maybe it is not supposed to get ir right just yet? Order of events..

What is Streamlight

[top]

Its main purpose is to provide you with an easy way to play or download antiX help videos from Youtube. It can do this without using a modern, heavyweight, web browser that might place high demands on your system which is sometimes seen as degraded performance.

Streamlight can be used in partnership with almost any web browser
, even those that cannot natively handle videos. It is also possible to use it without any web browser. It will work with any application in which your cursor can highlight the address of a video. For example a word processed document, a PDF file, a plain text email, or a terminal command line.

Because it is so economical in its use of your system resources, Streamlight is equally well suited to both modern powerful kit, and older less capable kit.

Videos can be handled from a range of other popular, anonymous video streaming services, in addition to Youtube. These should be regarded as a bonus rather than a mainstream goal of Streamlight. The focus is on delivering antiX help videos from Youtube to hardware of greatly differing capabilities. Features and facilities beyond this objective are deemed to be outside the scope of the project.
Can't figure it out? Oh well. Not my problem in a rant thread.
