your 1st linux distro
surprisingly a quick search (nothing too deep) didnt find this thread so i made it!
ok the 1st linux i ever used was ubuntu 5.04 |
Debian Woody when Woody was the unstable version.
|
First installed for me: Fedora Core 5
First I installed: gNewSense ---> gee-nuisance |
Mandrake Linux 6.1 sold as "Linux For Windows" installed as a virtual partition to a FAT32 filesystem. It didn't support my video card and was washed out and the screen was 4 times the size of my monitor.
Suse 6.4 with better driver support installed to it's own partition worked much better. |
Err... RedHat 6.2 picked up from a magazine. Not that I was successful in using it properly though :p
|
A customized single CD version of Redhat 8.0 obtained from a magazine....But I forgot name of that distro :(
Anyway, I successfully installed it and it was working pretty well :) |
Mandrake 9.1, now known as Mandriva. I even paid the $125 for the PowerPack!!!!
|
I was using unix via a shell account from 1991-1993, but my first linux distro was Caldera eDesktop 2.4 back in 1995.
|
Debian 'Potato' (testing), switched to 'SID' a few months before Potato was declared 'stable'.

I think if I remember, I used caldera for a year then moved on to redhat. Today, I currently use arch linux. - Cheers |
Slackware 7.1, then kinda left Linux. Tried Linux again few years later, Mandrake 9.2, then I got to my senses and went back to Slackware version 10.0, and been following Slackware since.
