The Nvidia drivers never gave me any problem either.

Dunno, they're hell on my 2003 server box. I hate Nvidia with a passion now...

Well, I've tried just about every trick in the book and I've never been able to install them correctly either.

Grrr...

I'm just wondering whether the ATi drivers are easier to install...

Thank you, nVidia, but you may well have lost a customer...

I was told that Nvidia drivers are much better than ATI drivers because Nvidia supports Linux fully... But I know that my brother also has problems with his Geforce 4. I guess I was very lucky.

Heh, you wouldn't have guessed it by the number of people who can't get their drivers to work...

I would disagree strongly. I've always been lucky with ATI in linux though. Pretty much plug and play. I can't even get nvidia to behave with windows half the time...

I guess we all end up using what works for each of us...

Might have to buy myself an ATi card then, just for comparison...

Nah, just get a "boxed set" from mandrake - mine seemed to come ready installed/compiled/whateveritscalled.

Never had any snags under mandrake.

Though I didn't really have too much of a problem with debian either - and with that, x just wouldn't start with the default stuff - a quick trip to nvidia.com and bingo (or ognib as they say in backwards land!)

regards

John
