I got it and then:

VPN fixes that. As it happens it's being broadcast FTA here, and I've already scheduled recording it.

Yeah I know but but it's not something so interesting and important to me that I would invest my time and money in VPN to watch this. To be honest, most things aren't.

syg00 08-07-2019 05:16 PM

Bypassing geo-blocks is just a side benefit, not the prime reason for a VPN.

average_user 08-07-2019 05:25 PM

I have OpenVPN set up on my router and I use it occasionally when I'm on a trip and use dodgy Wi-Fi networks in order to hide my online activity from the dodgy network's owner and present it to my home ISP instead. I don't really know how VPN works under the hood but I've always wondered - would it be equally easier for VPN servers operators to eavesdrop on their users' activity as it is for their ISPs?

teckk,
Thanks for the heads-up! It aired here yesterday, but I’ve queued the replay for the dvr, and have web link bookmarked.

1969 was a very good year (tho my memory is a bit fuzzy ;-) )

@average_user

What is the output of:
Code:

wget --spider https://ga.video.cdn.pbs.org/videos/american-experience/\
9a565856-c919-4de2-95c8-a91aa4b6d453/2000123657/\
hd-16x9-mezzanine-1080p/lh4gie0g_amex3106-16x9-1080p-432p-1100k.m3u8

Or
Code:

curl -I https://ga.video.cdn.pbs.org/videos/american-experience/\
9a565856-c919-4de2-95c8-a91aa4b6d453/2000123657/\

ondoho 08-08-2019 02:36 AM

This worked for me:
Code:

youtube-dl https://ga.video.cdn.pbs.org/videos/american-experience/9a565856-c919-4de2-95c8-a91aa4b6d453/2000123657/hd-16x9-mezzanine-1080p/lh4gie0g_amex3106-16x9-1080p-720p-3000k.m3u8
- came out as a 2GB mp4.

But even in 2019 I would never consider going to a festival that was so heavily televized. In 1969, it must have been the ultimate, terminally overcrowded mass media spectacle. Blergh!

That's what I thought. Those links in post #1 are to the AWS.

Look at post 9. I knew that youtube-dl works fine too, probably more convenient. I made myself do things the most basic way so that I could learn how things work. And curl or wget will work fine. Mplayer/mpv will play them from the .m3u8 playlist.

If you wanted a copy for later, or to put on a little device, or to backup for viewing 3 years from now, the 1100k file will be around 800MB, the 3000k is 2GB, so the 2000k is somewhere in between. The 730k is for people with a slow internet, might be 100-200MB.

There are actually several more. Look at:
Code:

curl https://ga.video.cdn.pbs.org/videos/\
american-experience/9a565856-c919-4de2-95c8-a91aa4b6d453/\

Television coverage was not expected. But then, a few thousand fans and a dozen groups TOTAL were expected. No one was ready for the way it built up. A quiet little music festival for the music that drove establishment crazy went way over the top and exploded into WOODSTOCK! It was like a typhoon of people, sounds, images, and experiences that no one predicted and no one was ready for. At once it gave the youth of the country hope and the knowledge that they were not alone and isolated, and struck fear into the hearts and minds of those who feared the youth and their dreams. It was anti-war in a time when anti-war was not thought to be popular. IT was insane, magical, musical, and nothing like it had ever happened before: nothing quite like it has happened since.

Had you been able and decided to go in 1969, you would have had NO idea what you were getting into!

ondoho 08-09-2019 01:09 AM

^ Smells like Teen Spirit to me.
Did you go, wpeckham?

Also, anti-war not popular in 1969? C'me on!

wpeckham 08-09-2019 06:53 AM

I did not go, I was just 17 and 2000 miles away.

Perhaps my viewpoint was skewed, but it seemed that around me (a military impact community) only the kids were really against the war and that no one in power was listening. Things got louder and more voices spoke against the war AFTER Woodstock than before. As if they had no idea how many of us there were, or that we were serious, until Woodstock. Suddenly things got real. (Also, real stupid at times, but that had nothing to do with Woodstock.)

If that was your viewpoint I won't claim you wrong.

So I guess you saw it on TV or where did you get all these impressions from your previous post?
