Exclamation Woman says her Amazon device recorded private conversation, sent it out to random contact

"A Portland family contacted Amazon to investigate after they say a private conversation in their home was recorded by Amazon's Alexa -- the voice-controlled smart speaker -- and that the recorded audio was sent to the phone of a random person in Seattle, who was in the family’s contact list..."

Define naive.

"A husband and wife in the privacy of their home have conversations that they're not expecting to be sent to someone (in) their address book," she said.

Hmmm - so she's happy to have Amazon trawl through it, but not some-one on her contact list.
I'm surprised they didn't also allow Amazon to unlock their front door.

Bet Google never did an evil thing like that before.

And don't forget to send all your nude photos to Facebook.

Facebook asks users to send in nude photos in effort to combat revenge porn

Yeah, that's why I made the comment.
I once thought of taping the door key on the inside of our Shepherds collar for delivery folks - all they had to do was successfully negotiate with the mutt ...
But the missus wouldn't be in it.

Ohhkay...

Quote:
Echo woke up due to a word in background conversation sounding like “Alexa.” Then, the subsequent conversation was heard as a “send message” request. At which point, Alexa said out loud “To whom?” At which point, the background conversation was interpreted as a name in the customers contact list. Alexa then asked out loud, “[contact name], right?” Alexa then interpreted background conversation as “right”.
