WinXP Software to allow Linux computers online.

Im on a LAN with an XP computer with a Broadband connection.

To get online I currently run 'spoon proxy' on the XP box, however I can't connect to an online POP server to get my e-mail.

I'm not allowed to change the OS on the XP box, or move the modem.

Does anyone know of any (free) software which would let me do this, under XP?

Many thanks in advance!

The built-in ICS? The linux box needs to obtain its IP by DHCP or have a static one in the range that ICS uses (I think its 192.168.x.x, if I remember correctly). I solved my problem with a $20 bid on ebay and got a Linksys BEFSR41. Its a 4 port router. You can keep connecting with all the computers and let the router do the work (saved me a few headaches - and the client speed is better).

I tried to use the 'Internet Connection Sharing ' whatever. It changes the IP address to 192.168.1.1, which means that the laptop, which moves between the Network at work [I have no idea why they _all_ have static IP!], and our Home Network ceases to connect, as it needs an IP in the range [192.168.66.*], Im not allowed to change that either!

A router would be Ideal, I will keep my eye out for one on Ebay.

Currently Im using 'freeproxy', which is more flexible.

You can chage the IP of the Windows sharing machine to your own value, I believe (I think that I did that myself - to 192.168.0.1). By the way, practically-networked has a list of about 25 recommended routers, if you're looking. Mine seems to be okay and do the job. I have turned off the DHCP server because I am using static IPs on my machines (so those who share files can see that I exist). Seems that it can do VPN forewarding, but I have not tried it - no need yet.

Moved to General - because that's where Windows questions go
