winXP installed on an Intel MAC

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/4816520.stm

now it should be even easier to run Linux on a MAC. nice to have that kind of powerful hardware to run a powerful OS.

big question is why would i want run a pathetic OS like XP when there is already an awsome OS called OSx that comes with those computers.

I reckon it might have been the prize money involved as well as the recognition of being the first to get Windows running on a computer that it shouldn't have run on.

It's Mac, MAC is a different thing (search in wikipedia).

GNU/Linux booted first on the Intel Macs (don't remember the link, but they use a modified knnopix).

btw, I'm getting an iMac when I get the money :D

I don't see the point other than to do something that isn't supposed to be doable. Instal mand overrated OS (XP) on overrated hadware (Mac). Why bother running linux on a Mac unless your stuck with one, just buy standard hardware.
I guess I've been around long enough to see plenty of broken Mac's and see that they are not any better than anything else. Mac parts, Dell parts, they are all made in Taiwan

Looks like I'm the only one that thinks this is neat. :p I mean, this is one of the reasons I tried Linux in the first place, to see if I could do something that I'd never tried before, so in spirit I think this is a great achievement, but I agree with the rest of you that it really has no practical use. Just my two cents. :twocents:

Well, yes there is the install on something that it hasn't been installed on before, but thats no different that the projects to install linux on routers, pda's, etc.
I certinaly wouldn't go out and buy Apple hardware just to run Linux on, there is plenty of decent hardware out there.

No, I agree with you. I was just trying to look at it from a different perspective.

I want to see linux run on a GM powertrain control module, that would be something to brag about :)
