Perhaps, Microsoft has had it in beta for ages. I hear they pulled WinFS and monad out of it so they could meet the release date, electing instead to focus devlopment resources on crippling the GDI stack by downscaling output to legacy VGA and DVI monitors, breaking OpenGL, and implementing DRM wherever possible.
