I was idly browsing and I wonder what these registry cleaner sites are.
are they the sites for installing spyware and botnets?

Just curious, in the way mr weasley is curious about muggles.

I've always found that, the clickable one, are just ads to sell you something,
based a lie about corruption on your M$ O/S.

the free registery cleaner(s) work quite well - why anyone would shell out some $$
for any windows_based S/W, beats me.

& that does include the O/S itself!.

I pity these poor windows users. all these traps and pitfalls for their
sad little OS.

Many are indeed scams, that at best do little good, and at worst are trojans.

Yeah, I used that one for a while, along with registry backup software ... ah, those were the days ... and I never want to go through that again. Screw Window$ !

Even CCleaner doesn't work. My Windows boot time doubled over a year, and I only ever used it for games. I'd use malwarebytes monthly, and CCleaner weekly, too.

Since we got our new desktop, I just keep a token Windows install on that, and my laptop runs Arch. Much better :p

i see windows has been problematic for lots of you guys :(

for me, it never was, and i heavily install/uninstall software and go through windows setting and all that kind of stuff........ +i download lots of stuff and browse the INTERNET W/O ANTIVIRUS .. and i still haven't got a blue screen of death (i just had one while using my 2 year old vista, but after that the FS got corrupt and i replaced windows vista with 7.

You have 3 problems.

- You have some sort of stupid anti-virus program. Use MSE or nothing, seriously.
- Installing/uninstalling games for a year and not defragmenting your HDD will decrease performance quite a bit.
- Clean up your startup services.

That would probably fix it. Arch does, however, rock. :D

Ignorant comment. Adobe CS is Windows-based software, and it has many essential programs for various jobs. AutoCAD is Windows-based software, and it is a very popular choice for designing 3D visuals. Many tax/stock programs, used by professionals in their respective areas, are Windows-based programs. Not to defend Windows itself, but the bolded comment is, as I said, ignorant.

-I had avast from day one. In retrospect I didn't need it.
-Windows wouldn't let me defrag. Seriously, I started the program, left it overnight, came back, and it was finished but in the same state as before.
-Tried that ;)

Basically, I give up on Windows. I only run Linux, now.
