Windows 2000/XP dual-boot

A MS windows problem...

you see... I am trying to set up a box with windows 2000/XP dual-boot....
Windows XP is already inside and I am trying to install 2000.... is it possible to not delete winXP and add 2000 inside?

Umm. I dont get it, you want to dual boot but you also want to delete xp and put on 2000? Umm. Doesnt that only give 1 OS if you delete Xp? I would use VMware witch will let you install 2000 IN xp and use it but it is not as good as installing a dual boot system.

I think you can partition using partition magic and install win 2000 and then use the windows boot loader to boot into whatever.

Yes, it is possible - as with any Windows/Windows dual-boot, make a 2 partitions and install the oldest version first (in this case 2000).

Thing is, XP is just 2000+ - what will this give you that running one or the other won't?

I agree with XavierP's question. Did you get the Mac OS info you posted for a week or so back?

Thanks for the replies guys...
Actually the situation is like this... My friend is using an English Edition of Win XP... and she said she wanted to run a Japanese version of Adobe InDesign.... and this jap InDesign cannot be installed in that eng Win Xp... we managed to get a japanese win 2000 at the end... so the problem was that how can I retain all the information and programs in win Xp while adding win 2000 into the box to set up a dual boot system...

and as XavierP said: we normally have to install the older Windows first... so I was doing some research to see if I can do the reverse...

and at the end... I first installed win 2000 and found that win XP doesnt boot... so I repair win xp with the recovery console and the problem was solved....

just for your reference, what did I do with the recovery console was this:
1. copy ntldr from the CD to c:
2. copy ntdetect.com to c:

p.s. to dear whiteshark:
yeah... at the end I ordered a copy of Mac OS X - panther edition - The Missing manual from amazon... It is a nicely written book... of course thanks for your suggestions, too :)

The missing manual is a very comprehensive book ;)
