win2k Printer Access control list problem
Greetings,
I have had a problem with win2k machines and the printers attached. I'm well aware that this is a linux site, however i figured the breadth of knowledge that everyone has that reads these forums may help me out...so bear with this post.
S'pose I have win2k profession (Service Pack 4) installed on two machines that are in the same "work-group". One machine (Machine A) has a local printer installed to it and it works properly. This printer does not have its "own" separate IP address.
Now s'pose I want to have access to that printer from Machine B. Because I am able to "see" the printer through Network Neighborhood, i can add this printer to Machine B via sharing capabilities on Machine A.
So up till now there is no problem. I can print to the local printer on Machine A from Machine B. However, when I reboot Machine B, I lose the printer sharing allowances on Machine B, and the only remedy is to go BACK to Network Neighborhood and actually "log-on" to Machine A, and that resets the network so that the Printer can be remotely printed to. Does anyone know why with win2k pro (SP 4) this happens? Any suggestions to fix this? I have installed all of the WINDOWS UPDATES POSSIBLE (perhaps this is the problem!).
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
