Will M$ buy Redhat???

http://www.zdnet.com.au/news/busines...9160925,00.htm

If so, will you dump Redhat and use another distro??
If not, do you think they should try their hand at a
customized distro.........and would you use it.........??

That article looks very speculative and not too convincing. I still don't get it. Is it a hypothetical question or a genuine concern?

With publishing this article ZDNet's standards have been debased beyond belief

ZDNet have long had a history of being very pro-MS. Equally, since SCO's cases, they have been, shall we say, not one of us. Bearing in mind that MSs new best friend Sun has started to attack Red Hat, this would just seem to be one more hit on the company.

Frankly, it's transparent. The same names keep coming up with stories - next we'll see ADTI with a similar story.

microsoft is like coca cola, but everyone knows pepsi tastes better.

as for not using rh, i never used it in the first place and i wouldnt recommend it to others either. i just dont see the advantages.

if ms made their own distro id try it(if it was free) and depending on how good it is i might use it full time. im not biased either way, i just want a good operating system. windows is not hte answer.

thats more of an opinion. I happen to like Coke better.

MS is more like the local cable company...people bi*** but feel they are stuck with it ....until Dish network and Direct TV came along (not that its that much better but its an alternative)

Dunno I'm kinda getting off Suse and Redhat, even w/o MS involvement. Suse is kinda awkward somehow, to many updates and RH decision to use fedora as test system kinda seems kinda weird too. I prefer Debian. Kinda stuck with Suse as its on our hosted server.

Matter of choice

There's been talk of Sun buying Novell out too, BTW. I don't see either happening in the near future though. RHAT and NOVL still have respectable market caps that would put a dent even in Bill's wallet. And the tech sector isn't exactly booming again either, so preserving cash is probably still kinda important. If/when tech picks up again though, a wave of M&A activity wouldn't surprise me... actually, that'll probably be a good sign it's for real this time and not just another sucker's rally.

FWIW and IMHO, Novell should dump the SuSE brand/name. Novell Linux is what people want.

I must say I am a little worried about this. Novell has a reputation for screwing up a good thing by over-Novelling it. I would give it a shot, but why mess with a good thing. SuSE is fine with it's lizard. The SuSE Enterprise Server now uses a red N in the K-menu button, so maybe they are taking your advice already Crito..

Just seems to me the Novell brand has a lot more name recognition in the marketplace than SuSE does. No offense to SuSE fans, but it might as well be called Margret Linux I'm all for keeping the cute little reptilian mascot though... worked for Geico anyways.
