Linux no threat to Microsoft To all you Linux users out there, you may wanna read this! As the subject says: will linux ever take operating systems by storm? Microsoft are to dominant in this software sector! |
I don't think linux will. There are more users today then ever but not nearly enough to take over

Yeah, this is pretty much "flame bait and not much more." The sort of thing that comes up about once a week (too often).
Linux doesn't need anyone to defend it at this point. If you've always used Microsoft Windows (and, by extension, you've always used the sort of computer that Microsoft Windows is designed to run on), and nothing more, then you really just aren't qualified to comment anyway. Your opinion and exposure are simply too limited to be meaningful. |
Twenty years ago, did Sears ever think Wal-Mart would be a threat--let alone have nigh-world domination when it comes to consumer goods? Probably not.
So Microsoft doesn't think (or at least says it doesn't think) Linux is a threat on the desktop. What does it matter? Do you think I'm going to go to a Cingular store and ask them what they think of Sprint phones? |
sorry to regurgitate what everyone else has said...but who cares? If people want to use Windows, let them use it.

I feel the same way. Windows serves a purpose as well as linux. If the shoe don't fit, don't wear it. Besides, I like linux right where it is. The user base of linux is a much more friendly crowd and widespread use would ruin the friendly image of linux (IMHO). |
Think of it this way: would a parent who shuttles their 3 kids to and from school every day, then trundles off to the shops or whatnot want to be doing so in a formula 1 car? No he/she doesnt need the power that car provides, nor is it suitable for the job.
So you see, Linux serves a purpose for those who can truly see the benefit in using it and/or are interested in this "new phenomenon" in computing. And as others have said, who wants some angry, virus making windows user polluting our community? Not me. |
I do not think that the low quality of Microsoft will survive for a long time.Linux, on the other hand, is so much better.

even if people use linux microsoft already got money from them when they bought their computers (unless u build the comp yourself) so really microsoft is in a secure position. there are a lot of people who think that linux should take over teh world but trust me there are some people you would never want on linux and who would do badly on linux. the point of linux is choice, for me it is that i choose how my system works not someone at microsoft but for others they may choose that they want the guy at microsoft to make those decisions for them. |
It already has!! Linux scales!!
The Linux Operating System scales like magic
Million/Billion soho routers and dsl-modems are running Linux OS (ucLinux - u cee Linux) Mobile phones running Linux with a full-featured desktop, Linux runs on grids, hundreds or thousands of machines in a supercomputing cluster And the X Desktop run on Linux, which has the record of stability envied in computing. X Window system is based on: Version 11 was first released in 1988 and has been stable for 18 years, with only upward compatible additions to the core X protocol. |
