Yes, my frustration (posting this thread was) is with humanity (sorry ) and yes we're screwed. Everything dies even planets...
I use the wall, the power is already there so why use anything else? My plan, like friends: is to have solar, wind plus whatever newtech pops up feeding back to the grid. Hopefully enough to pay on it's upkeep at least?
Wish to compare, I would have posted this on the 5th:( Millions- multiplying ago):

3 billion batteries
It is estimated that 3 billion batteries are thrown away each year by Americans, a population of 323 million people. Running the math on 3 billion new battery users, using at a rate of Americans that 3 billion batteries thrown away annually turns into nearly 28 billion batteries thrown away annually.

I have solar panels on my roof and during the day, in the summer half of the year, they power the fridge and freezer and my computer too. I only use grid power after dark and for about 30 minutes at midday when I run my immersion heater to get some hot water for washing up after lunch.
In winter, the panels produce a lot less even during the time the sun is above the horizon.

At our latitudes, Hazel, the sun spends a lot of time near the horizon. Global warming allowed Icelanders to viably grow potatoes for the first time in the South of Iceland recently enough. They don't need much sun. There's also a maximum angle from the perpendicular where the cells are efficient. Most installations are set against the roof slates which may or may not be ideal.
