Why Tablets Makers / Tablets Producers REFUSE Linux on it?

Hello,

Ok, let's say that you came with the crazy idea to run Linux on a Tablet.

So you may check these HowTos, and try to get Ubuntu on one of those.

http://linuxgizmos.com/tablet-runs-u...-intel-core-m/
http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/li...image-3531970/
http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2014/11/j...s-crowdfunding

After some digging, you will realize that to root the tablet, and fight with kernel is possible but takes time.

However, simpler solution, buy a tablet with Linux already installed on it, right?

None, not a single tablet maker will give you Linux on it.

So why Tablets Makers / Tablets Producers REFUSE Linux on it?

Is it a problem for Bill that the BIOS allow to install Linux, why then to block and so-called "secured" it?

Linux is doomed really. What do you think?

Regards / Good Luck to our freedoms and data privacy !
X.

Maybe a good idea for KDE is to create KDE-Store and ask you for name, address, paypal/visa account number, password of your email account,... Some possible thinkable future for KDE to be on one tablet

Sorry ... and to communicate those infos to FBI and Google.

No it doesn't. It just confirms that Linux is still niche (fine with me) and will stay so awhile longer.

Because if Linux were easily installable, people would do so and get rid of the vendor's OS - which is not what the vendor wants. Or do you assume that samsung, htc, hp, sony, et al, don't have contracts with google and/or microsoft?

Tablets tend to be locked to the OS they come with, yes.

If you're expanding that to include tablet PCs, though, well, you can install Linux on any of those.

You can easily install Linux on a MS Surface Pro, a Lenovo Yoga, or any of those.

About 3 years ago, a state-owned manufacturer here in Venezuela launched a tablet with Debian preinstalled. Sadly, they stopped manufacturing it after a few months. I guess most people preferred Android tablets (though Android could be installed in this one). In case anyone is interested to see it in action and know how it looked, here's a video (in Spanish).

Yes Linux is doomed.

Perhaps a better way to direct your effort would be to start a campaign to convince manufacturers to sell devices with other OSes on them. Like starting a petition. Manufacturers will only expand their offerings if they know, or believe, there are enough potential customers to make profit.

Easily? Or does it require a little work? The point being Apple does not want other systems on their machines. That does not doom Linux. (Other things doom Linux as people know it or believe it to be.)
