Why ruin things?

Why do people insist on ruining things for other members,,

continully gob-shiting one another until the thread is closed, even after being asked not to ruin the thread is really f**king selfish,
OK sometimes the thread topic is crap, sometimes its not and its a members thoughts on politics, religon, music, football and even bloody software.

but it doesnt matter what it is cos some people dont care, they force their opinions on others and some just have to get the last word in!!

I know I'll probably get flamed for this and I dont care, cos it will justify this post if it happens.

I wont be dragged into a debate or a flame war over this.
Im not singling ANY single member out either.
But if you feel offended by this post then it probably applies to you....

My £0.02p $0.02c and getting it off my chest.

Nah I used to a little bit,,, my mother was from the Scottish highlands and she taught me some when she was smashed,, but I can only remember the greetings and pleasantries now.

Scotland is a very beautiful country, we have some stunning scenery and good pubs, we are generally as good folk as you can find anywhere in the world..

The downside is the weather SUX!

secesh 11-12-2004 04:55 PM

yeah, ain't it always raining over there? and cold?

how does the nationality work -- isn't there some sort of deal with GB? i've never understood all that...

You have a good point bad penny. I suggest if people have an issue with one another to take it off the forums and to direct e-mail since private message isn't on for most members (and that would use bandwidth too anyway)

It rains a lot and can get cold, but there are places in the U.S. that get a lot colder that us.

Im Scottish by birthright, but to be politically correct I have to say either scot/brit or simply Brittish

we are made up of the 4 countries Scotland, England, Ireland & Wales we all have our own governments and laws but we all defer to westminster (England) for Serious or constitutional law & of course the Queen is still our sovereign.

(However that might change if that smiling fcukwit Tony Blair gets his way and we defer to Brussels)

Hmmm
we seem to be losing the ability to disagree
without reaching for swords, clubs, bombs, flamethrowers whatever...

When I was studying, I sat with a guy who had very different political leanings to me and we had a very pleasant discussion without the need to bludgeon one another with our viewpoint. Its something which is sadly missing in todays society.

There have been quite a few threads where I have just had to pass over without comment because it just wasnt worth it. I wonder if people would still say what they say if this were all face to face.

I take my hat off to the mods here though, I think they do an excellent job. I visit some other forums where anything goes and it is sad.

live long and prosper

Yay, Mods rock :D ;)

Unfortunately, this being the internet, we have a space where we can all, anonymously, vent our spleen. This means that as long as you can type, any thought you have can be made public. Conversely, you get to read the badly thought out expressions of others.

As we have seen, where in the real world, you may hear something and then spend time thinking about it, on the internet you can just bash that keyboard and get your opinion out there.

Note: when I say "you" and "your", it's the general "you/r" not singling anyone out. :)

Someone once said something which equated opinions with a part of the anatomy - that everyone had one. To bring this back round to the original point, the nature of this part of the forum (although it happens elsewhere on LQ) is to be slightly less moderated - in that you can post anything as long as it doesn't break LQ's rules or otherwise damage the board or it's standing (normally we step on religion/politics threads as they are extremely emotive issues and can get out of hand). The downside of this is that if you were to post that Britney Spears' latest single was the finest piece of music on God's green earth, while it's a perfectly legitimate post in General, you will be flamed to high heaven for absolutely no real reason - except that others disagree and feel that your music tastes make you "lame" and fair game.

What I will say is this: if anyone is being flamed or feels that a thread is spinning wildly out of control, click the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of the post and tell us what is wrong with it. If you retaliate you are quite likely to be the one who is targeted - usually because your real flamer will either post and then never return to the thread or be deliberately baiting you so you'll lose it and they will win whatever argument they think they are having.

Here ends this public announcement :)
