Why Religion?

Ive seen some posts on these boards about religion and i would like to ask people why they have faith.
I dont want to start an argument or anything id really like to know.

Why do you belive in god(s)? How can you put so much trust in something that there is no proof to support? How can you belive in god(s) that never show themselves?

Again, i really dont want to start an argument. I just want to know why. Anyone?
Thanks.

You say you don't want to start an argument. But you inevitably will when you come with an subject like that. BUt why is that so bad. As long as we respect each other.
I personally am an believer. I'm a moslim. You say, "how can you believe in somthing there is no proof for". What do mean? Look around you. Look at creation.
Ye, I know what you will say. Science does a much better job at explaining creation. But does it? It does'nt. And I can know. I'm nearly a scientist my self. God willing I will have my masters diploma in aplied physics in a few years.
But religion isn't only about understanding the world you live in. It is also (even mainly) about knowing your self. When you know your place in the universe, you will know your god. Religion is about a seach. A seach for the truth, a seach for your self. Religion (for me) doesn't tell you "you should belief like so or so". It tells you that there is more to creation then meats the eye and it encourges us to find out for our selfs. I you don't believe it, fine, just look and you'l know.
So you ask, "how can you belief in somthing there is no proof for". The truth is no one should belief somthing there is no proef for. But for a true believer, the proef is right in front of his nose 24 hours a day, and it's there because he has seached for it.

or rather.. when you come a long with a subject like that simply because that's a thread you used to have before you got uprooted and want to start it again for the sake of it....

carrja99 - this is an word-for-word copy of Any's first post on this topic over on JustLinux. Lets not go treading on our new hosts toes quite so soon, hey? I'm calling this one a troll for sure.

I don't find it myself necessary to bring up topics like these unless it said at the top of the page: "where people find answers to their faith"

But you know what, my thoughts are this: "You'll find out when you are no longer living."

heh - that reminds me of a good quote - (or paraphrase, in this case)

"knotty theological questions are the least worrying of problems to me - they can all be resolved in the hereafter, and for now, can safely be shelved."

Eh. I have faith that my Linux box will still be up and running when I get home from work.

heheh.. yeah, compared to the good old days when I ran windows. I can still remember going out of town on the weekend, then coming back to my dorm and finding my computer with a BSOD, which after pressing any key, "shut the lights off on me."

You know, screen is completely blacked out, but you can move the cursor around and do nothing else. :D

acid_kewpie 02-13-2003 10:55 AM

mmmmmmmm linux. has anyone ever tried it? what's their favourite distro? have any screenshots to go along with it? how do i make KDE go faster on my p133?

I had almost the exact same thing happen to me once. I thought the hard drive was fragged ... now I run Linux on it. :D

I'm with Pen on this one, we don't know our hosts well enough to assume that we will keep it polite, and I am weary of the subject anyway, so I will be avoiding it. I suggest you try and make it through the stage of getting to know your new mates before you try to rattle them. Vote here for it being a troll as well. But good effort.;)

I wish for once you guys don't refer to us as hosts but as people or members. Were members just like you guys are at this time, you've signed up for this site, your using it, then your a part of LQ.

No need to distinct us from the old JL crowd. If your a part of us, then well good, if you think were just here to host your posts, I don't like that idea at all as this site wasn't created to have two separate groups. Were LQ, you got to accept us for how we handle things, alot of us are use to this site like you were to LNO, and I don't think most of us old timers here are going to change.

Be a part of our community or not, but just don't refer to us as "they" cause we don't refer to you newcomers as "them".

Just a thought....
