In answer to the original subject (and not the cat) I could answer that question from the Scriptures but I wouldn't do that unless it's ok with the folks here; There's many different opinions here

Today I stopped talking politics on LQ. As you say, there are a lot of different opinions and the way I use to talk subjects like politics has proven offending to others from a different cultural background. I don't want to offend people so I now choose to abstain from discourse about subjects that people might offend people on a forum like this.

Please don't.
I value your input even if I don't always agree with your opinions.
Offending others - on the internet it is impossible to avoid that, better learn to live with it!
I also think I know which incident you refer to and I can assure you it wasn't so bad.

Hermani I think it might be worthwhile to examine the conclusion to attempt to offend nobody. On the surface it seems noble enough but first of all it is not really obtainable unless you apologize for the air you breathe, the space you take up, the food you eat and every idea you could ever have. You have every right and I would add responsibility to speak your mind and I think you do a disservice to yourself and those you would like to protect by not giving them at least the benefit of the doubt that they can handle non-violent conflict. If they can't then they sorely need to learn how.

This doesn't mean or even imply that it is OK to be a cruel and insensitive bully. It implies that to keep "paying your dues" to be a card carrying valid ALIVE human being that it behooves you to do due diligence in research as well as be as respectful to others as you would prefer them to be with you. If you, like anyone and everyone does sometimes, might go over the top sometime you need to learn the humility of freely giving a sincere apology and remembering that to do better next time. IMHO This is how we all grow and contribute to our own well being as well as Humanity. Just be cool with it Mistakes are an essential part of learning. Don't fear or apologize for them. Deal and grow. Otherwise you might just as well be algae.

I get the impression it is I who will stop talking politics. I will.
