why is rh-9 still so popular
hi, on lq-iso ( http://iso.linuxquestions.org/) the #1 on the list of '15 Most Downloaded over last 30 Days' is red hat linux 9 (shrike).
i thought red hat sunset their red hat linux line in favor of the rhel/ fedora lines.
why is rh-9 still on top of the list.

Probably because it was the last version of RedHat to be released before they changed to enterprise-only releases. I think it was also the last version of RedHat that you could buy in a box at BestBuy.
We used RedHat 9 heavily for embedded work at one of my previous employers. It was very stable and fast even on low-end hardware.

Reason: Hyphenated "low-end" for clarity.

I think part of it is that RH 9 > RHEL 5
Some people seem to go for Redhat 9, wrongly thinking it is the latest version (ie: Newer that RHEL 5). They want Redhat - not Fedora.
Additionally, there are still books with RH9 CDs. I went into Borders just last week for some Christmas Shopping, and they had several Redhat 9 Books (Redhat Bible, Redhat for Dummies), etc - all with RH9 CDs. These books were heavily discounted, and on a "best buy" stand.

This question pops up occasionally here, and the best theory I've heard is that LQ is actually one of the few places you can still download RH9, so people who want it ill tend to come here.
Not sure of the voracity of the theory, but it's certainly plausible.
