There was actually a nuclear meltdown before chirnobyl: It was in Idaho, but was more successfully covered up. It wasn't as bad, though, because it was a smaller meltdown in a much less populated area. Here's a wikipedia page on it.
Fusion would be much nicer: It only generates neutrons and helium (assuming Heavy Water fusion) which settle down quite quickly (just let the neutrons hit some water and you get more fuel), and puts out a lot more power, but it has some real problems to go along with it, like melting just about anything we can contain it with. Cleaner than nuclear, smaller than Solar, cheaper (in concept) than just about anything. Just doesn't work quite yet, outside of the weaponized industry.
Also, I bet we could use fusion energy to break down the radioactive isotopes from fission (classic nuclear) reactors, so no more waste there either: It would be fairly trivial to break it down into something stable.
The fusion, the issue is regularly materials due to the resulting temperature. To make it, it shall increase the temperature. Usually available materials for this application are very limited.
Anyhow I fear it is as well dangerous.
Wind energy is still ok. Although they said that animals get "perturbed".
Well, fusion at least doesn't put out anything but a semi-radioactive explosion on failure in an accident. It has no nuclear waste to speak of for more than 4 or 5 hours, since the neutrons hitting things will die down very quickly, and isn't all that dangerous for a one time exposure. So think more like plane wreck than environmental panic of the century.
All forms of power generation have their problems. Wind's problem is mainly that it doesn't work for every area, and isn't constant.

When humans reach a Scorched Earth Level of Greed.
Nuclear Power Plants are constructed to compete with fossil fuels dollar for dollar per energy output and not safety. The Japanese Plants were at a safety level that was priced close to a fossil fuel plant so the safety needed was thrown out the window to make Nuke Power Economically practical. The bastards are still lying about it. It actually could not have been any worse. The people responsible are the ones that allowed the plants to be built that were ignorant of the term greed ,the Universities that push suicidal thinking and the people that have fat wallets that owned the plants, follow the money trail. Nothing will change because the guilty are always above the law and do not face justice. The "system" is always to blame. We now know what will happen to California at some point.

Is there any pollution on earth of waste material during production/use / recycling using nuclear sources?

When you talk about something like that, you need to provide proof, otherwise you'll sound like tin foil conspiracy theorist. AFAIK your(?) government has actually tested if the wall of nuclear power plant can withstand jet crashing into it. Apparently it can.
Not to get off of the subject but I once worked at a warehouse that provided food for a supermarket chain in Massachusetts.
One Thanksgiving one of the tractor trailers filled with turkeys from a farm down south had a busted refrigeration system.
When the truck door was opened at the warehouse all of the turkeys were covered with flies and maggots. The warehouse foreman wanted to just set the truck on fire but he was over ruled buy the owners. The owners has a guy come to the warehouse with a big torch and the guy cut off the other end of the 40 foot trailer. The turkeys were washed down with a fire hose and then packaged and sold in supermarkets in low income neighborhoods.
There were only six lawsuits so the owners patted themselves on the back because proving food poisoning was the fault of the supermarket is very hard to do. Companies always claim it was the purchasers mishandling that caused the problem.
When your God is money - morals, ethics. etc. are not considered about anything; only the profits are on the table and in the mind.
